Wool Spinning (fleece to jumper)

This 2 day course provides an insight into the process of wool production from shearing to carding, dyeing and spinning of the fleece. You will be introduced to a flock of Lincoln Longwool sheep (famous for their woolly coats) and a flock of Derbyshire Gritstone sheep (a mountain breed) and receive instruction in the quality and types of fleece, washing the fleece, carding (hand and drum), drop spindle spinning, wool plying and making into hanks, natural and chemical dyeing and understanding your wool’s tension for knitting. Where dates coincide with the shearing season, you will also have the opportunity to see this exciting activity.

Ideal for those who enjoy knitting or simply want to learn an ancient craft.
