All of our tutors are specialists in their fields of expertise and most live and work in and around the Peak District National Park. We are able to provide further details on request.

Jon Wayte: an ex Royal Navy Submariner, Jon enjoys spending his time in the “great wide-open” walking, climbing and cycling. He works with the peak District National Park as Field Safety Adviser and has a good, constantly improving knowledge of the National Park and what it has to offer. He is a member of the Visitor Safety in the Countryside Group set up in 1997 to look at creating safe access to the countryside in ways that do not spoil the landscape or heritage, or lessen the visitor’s sense of exploration and adventure.

Sally Hodgson: has been walling since 10 years of age and has worked as a professional waller for over 17 years. She has a BA in Fine Art and Textiles which assists her with landscape and gardening commissions. Sally is qualified to advanced certificate level and has travelled to India and Norway researching dry stone buildings. She began teaching in 1991 and had taught for BCTV, Groundwork, the National Stone Centre and various Universities and Colleges. In her spare time she runs a cattle and sheep farm in the Peak District where she regularly puts her walling skills to good use.

Heather Watson, MCSP.B. Physio (Hons). Adv Cert OH. PGC App Erg: Heather is a qualified Chartered Physiotherapist and has worked in the NHD as a Clinical Specialist (Superintendent) and in private practice and consultancy with PhysioWays Ltd. Areas of special interest include work related injuries and addressing problems through the use of ergonomics and postural advice, prevention, the treatment and rehabilitation of sports injuries, complex spinal pain, upper limb disorders and sacroiliac problems. Since 2006 Heather has been a tutor for the “Get on the Ball” (clinical Swiss ball applications) rehabilitation approach teaching physiotherapists across the UK and has recently been appointed as visiting lecturer at Sheffield Hallam University on the Vocational Rehabilitation Masters Degree course.

Ian Daisley: is a professional photographer living in Bonsall who has a wide range of experience including fine art landscapes, portraits, weddings and commercial photography. Ian has been a photographer for over 30 years and has a deep passion for the subject, being only too keen to pass on his experience, enthusiasm and skill to others. He has a relaxed teaching style that encourages student participation and the sharing of techniques and experiences. Sharon Rowlands: has over 25 years experience in the wool trade and has owned her own wool and craft shop for the past 8 years. She lives in the village of Bonsall and is committed to assisting the survival of Lincoln Longwools, a rare breed of sheep, keeping a small flock at her workshop in the village. Sharon is keen to make traditional crafts available to the next generation and regularly shares her knowledge of wool spinning and its associated skills with many different groups from the classroom to the boardroom. She holds the EQM (Environmental Quality Mark) for her wool and wool products and meat.

Julie Cook: is qualified to International Nordic Walking Association (INWA) standards and has been coaching since November 2005. In 1994 she completed the Peak District National Park training programme and has been working part time managing a team of Rangers at Langsett in the Dark Peak for the last 10 years. She works on conservation projects, leads walks for the public and trains new recruit Rangers. She was previously a member of the Woodhead Mountain Rescue Team. Julie is a keen cross country skier and has been helping visually impaired people to ski since 1995. In 2000 Julie qualified as a ski guide with Ski for Light, a voluntary organisation based in Norway and the USA which supports people with sight impairment and/or physical disability.
